Highline School Board Meeting Approves OpenSciEd High School Biology Pilot

Highline School District Successfully Pilots OpenSciEd High School Biology

Here’s some end-of-year good news and a reason to celebrate from Washington State! With the support of Activate Learning, Highline School District has successfully piloted the OpenSciEd high school biology curriculum and is moving forward with a full adoption.

Congratulations to the educators, students, and school leaders who embraced change and the belief that all students deserve equitable science learning! 👏👏👏

The pilot results, presented at a recent school board meeting, showed that approximately 80% of students reported contributing to lessons and feeling respected in their learning environment. Nicole Flynn, Secondary Science Specialist, noted that “The OpenSciEd Materials were easy to learn and understand” and that students “really appreciated getting to look at real data.”

“Students have responded very favorably to the curriculum. The students are really asking that their learning be relevant,” said Laura Schneider, Director of Secondary Instruction, during her presentation on the outcomes of the pilot.

This success story comes on the heels of our recent announcement that all OpenSciEd High School Biology units are now available on the Activate Learning Digital Platform.
